Xion and his brother Jason Lightener were born on the mining planet Demar to their mother Hel’ferin and father Dax’ionas Lightener.
His parents were employed by the Lant Mining Company and worked in the backbreaking mining and foundry complexes of the planet.
Xion and his brother spent much of their childhood running the lower levels of the mining complexes with the other children of financially oppressed miners and technicians. Most days were spent hunting the planet with blasters Jason had stolen and Xion had modified. They would hunt the dangerous indigenous cave dwelling predators of the planet, not only for the bounty placed on them by the company, but as a supplement to their families meager food allotments. Both brothers decided at an early age that in order to escape the life of a miner they would enlist in the Imperial Army as soon as they were eligible.
During basic training Xion realized that a lot of the equipment that was issued to him was substandard at best in his opinion, so he started customizing it to suit his needs, first with his blaster just as he’d done as a kid, then just about every other piece of equipment that was assigned to him. He would stay up into the quiet evenings after lights out improving many of the base functions of a lot of his basic gear. He was quickly recognized for his technical prowess and eventually offered a position within the elite Stormtrooper Corps. Initially he was tasked with looking into the equipment of his team that could be customized for better efficiency and applicability. He immediately went to work improving most of the gear much to the chagrin of his team leader Sergeant Migala.
Xion found that he consistently butted heads with Sergeant Migala, a troglodyte of a man that had been so thoroughly brain washed by indoctrination he believed if the Empire had wanted their team to fight with toothpicks then that’s the way it should be. Xion consistently complained to his superiors, if they were to go into battle with this man they would surely be killed, which would obviously be a waste of training and equipment. “There are a lot of talented soldiers on our team. You wouldn’t want to be responsible for their deaths would you?” eventually accepting Xions point of view Command assigned a Staff Sergeant as team leader supplanting Sergeant Migala. The Staff Sergeant was none other than his brother Jason. As happy as the men were to end up on the same team, old brotherly habits and pranks die hard.
During a mission to Dantooine the team was tasked to assist Inquisitor Tremayne. They were to find a murderous deserter and kill or capture him/her.
During a confrontation between Tremayne and this ‘deserter’ it became obvious to Xion and his brother that they had been lied to and manipulated by their superiors and the Inquisitor. The man they were tasked with hunting down was in fact a Jedi in hiding, the light saber being a not-so-subtle clue.
In a critical moment of confrontation between the Inquisitor and the Jedi, Jason ordered the team to guard an imaginary escape route while Xion sliced the communication relays the team used to communicate with the Inquisitor. This left the Inquisitor alone and vulnerable. The diversion allowed the Jedi to injure the Inquisitor and escape, if only temporarily.
Knowing their betrayal would instantly be known by the Inquisitor the brothers quickly left Dantooine by taking a job as cargo-handlers and security aboard an outbound freighter. They had now became that which they thought they had been hunting, Imperial deserters.
Spending most of his time working on anything and everything broken. They spent the next year traveling the galaxy, selling their skills aboard various merchant vessels. Xion had sliced some fake credentials while on Dantooine that had changed their names. Jason used the same alias Dax’ionas Lightener while Xion, pressed for time, simply shortened up his mother’s name and went by Hel Lightner. Being the younger brother has its shortcomings.
Xion was not happy that Jason had taken a job with a Captain Tilings, something about the man rubbed Xion the wrong way, and the state of his ship and equipment just exacerbated the issue. But he understood that work needed to be done, so he worked and waited patiently. One night on some cargo haul from Tatooine Jason roughly rousted him from a dead sleep and almost paid with a lost tooth for it. Dodging the attempt at a sluggish strike to the face Jason urged him to slice into the Captains encrypted log files. There he learned that some Twi’lek was indeed telling the truth to Jason and they had yet again been lied to and manipulated. Hearing all this information Xion wanted to kill the captain right then and there. But Jason, being more tactically minded, said he had a plan.
Xion and the Twi’lek, helped Jason take command of the ship, killing Captain Tilings in the process. Jason ordered the rest of the crew still loyal to the captain marooned on Nar Shaddaa. They then sold the rifles and dropped the Twi’lek off on Tatooine.
Tatooine appeared to be a good planet to hide out on, no one seemed to ask too many questions here. Both tired of running, and working for others, Xion and his brother changed their identities once more.
Too sentimental to let go completely of their family ties, Daxion Twilight and Jaferin Darklight were born, complete with histories showing they had grown up orphans on Tatooine. At least that’s what Jaferin adeptly sliced into the local record systems.
With the help of Daxion’s new underworld contacts he sold the ship on the black market for far less than it was worth, so as to keep any questions about its original owner to a minimum, but still enough that he and his brother could purchase a small repulsorlift repair shop with the proceeds. Renaming the shop ‘Twilight Motors’. With Jaferin’s skill as a mechanic, it soon became a very popular location for local swoop gangs to get their bikes repaired. Plus, with his brother dabbling into the even seedier side of Tatooine (if there really was such a thing), extra credits were coming in to keep the bills paid and the local constabulary out of their business.
Eventually these “jobs” became bigger and required more security and transportation logistics than Daxion and Jaferin could manage alone, so they would cut one of the local bike clubs, Suns of Anchorhead, in on the take to help with those aspects of the job.
It wasn’t long before the brothers came to trust the Suns and they them. So much so that when asked to prospect for the club they agreed.
Now, a few years later, Jaferin has chosen to be the Road Captain of the local chapter, while continuing to run the shop’s mechanics that maintain and repair the clubs bikes…
